Scene of this year’s annual confrontation will be the Moonta Bowls Club, about 160kms from Adelaide on the renowned Copper Coast, where our national team played a series against South Africa in September. The men’s combination - current holders of the Loy Carroll Trophy - sees Altona’s Brad Peck and David Keenan from Bendigo East coming in for Essendon’s Peter Loe and Nick McIntyre from Bundoora RSL for the five match series; while the six- player Under-25 team will strive to regain the Whitehead Pope Shield in three medley-style tests. Our women’s line-up which faces South Australia for the coveted Mulga Cup - which the Croweaters have won over the past three years - sees four changes to the side that performed indifferently against ACT last month yet still managed to clinch the series. Lalor’s Gayle and Brooke Edwards return to the side, while Kellie Bowles from Warrnambool has earned a recall. At long last, after three seasons of consistent high performance, Lara’s Joan Tennent has finally forced her way into the team and no doubt all Victorians will wish her well in her debut series. Missing from the team which played ACT at Wangaratta last month will be Claire Sanders from Yarrawonga & Border Golf, City of Echuca’s Melissa Larcombe, Victoria Troster from Mt Waverley and Clayton’s Paula Wood. The Victorian teams to play South Australia at Moonta Bowls Club SA on 2-5 January 2012 are: Men’s Senior: Rink 1: Michael Wilks (Clayton) skip, Brad Peck (Altona), Adam Galloway (Bundoora RSL), Brett Foley (Shepparton Golf). Rink 2: Matt Flapper (Essendon) skip, Barrie Lester (Moonee Ponds), Aaron Wilson (Essendon), Dylan Fisher (Melbourne). Rink 3: Wayne Roberts (Yarraville Footscray) skip, Nathan Bush (Geelong West), David Keenan (Bendigo East), Matt Robertson (Shepparton Golf). Men’s Under 25: Dylan Benwell (Clayton), Andrew Brown (Bendigo), Scott Mortimer (Melbourne), Dane McKinnon (Werribee RSL), Mathew Rennex (Altona), Matt Wilson (Essendon) Women’s Senior: Rink 1: Rebecca McMahon (City Colac) skip, Nicole Shortis (Glenroy), Gayle Edwards (Lalor), Judy Davey (Glenroy). Rink 2: Carla Odgers (Sunbury) skip, Lisa Phillips (Richmond Union), Mary-Anne Spizer (Clayton), Kellie Bowles (Warrnambool). Rink 3: Sam Shannahan (Lara) skip, Joan Tennent (Lara), Elise Cowan (Sunbury), Brooke Edwards (Lalor) - Les Christie • Lara’s Joan Tennent will make her state debut against South Australia in January.
