Bowls In Focus : March April 2011
44 Bowls In Focus Campaspe Valley Congratulations to City of Echuca’s Melissa Roberts, the newly crowned state singles champion. Well done Melissa, the association is extremely proud of you. Congratulations are in order also for the following CVDLBA state winners: Champion of champions, Evelyn Locke (Elmore), Evelyn was also last year’s winner. Fours winners were the Moama team of Bev Carra, Merilyn Rehe, Marilyn Stephenson and Sandra Connolly, while the pairs saw the mother and daughter combination of Marie Davie (Moama) and Rhonda Gallagher (Lockington) succeed in representing us in the Group 6 final. The Group 6 triples winners were Moama’s Bev Trengrove, Marion Roberts and Doris Bamford. We congratulate you all and wish you well in your future matches. Camperdown Congratulations to Margaret Toulmin of Lismore Memorial on reaching her 90th birthday. Margaret has been a member of Lismore for 48 years, being a foundation member and life member of the club. She has won the club singles five times, the latest two being in 2010 and 2011. A great effort at 89! She has also won the club pairs, 100-up, was a member of the state fours runner-up country section and many more events. Always a willing participant in many tournaments and pennant matches, Margaret is still skipping in the CDLBA pennant. She has been a wonderfully loyal member of Lismore, and appears to have captured the ‘fountain of youth’. Her generosity over the years has been outstanding, donating trophies and prizes on her special day for 47 years, while she has served as president many times, and has hardly missed a year without being on the match committee. We salute you Margaret and happy birthday. Central Congratulations to the CDLBA pairs champions Ann Borham and Alison Hall from Seymour who defeated Mansfield’s Marian Ryan and Kathleen Bock to claim the title. Central Highlands Weather has played havoc with getting events finalised, but we congratulate the following winners and runners-up: State pairs: Wendy Baker (s) and Sylvia Stevenson (Melton) defeated Kyneton’s Bev Hanna(s) and Margaret Breadsell; Champion of Champions: Colleen Such (Gisborne) defeated Shirley Hummel (Romsey). We wish Colleen, Wendy and Sylvia good bowling in their next matches and hope they are victorious. Melton’s Division 1 side is just over the moon - just a tiny club it has won seven out of eight premierships over the last eight years and has now won its way into the State Pennant Sides championship at Darebin having defeated Central and Goulburn Valley now in the Group final. We wish them well.
