Bowls In Focus 7 Deputy President Betty Collins OAM Kew Heights Life member and past president of the VLBA, former president of the Australian Women's Bowls Council, and life member and immediate past president of World Bowls, the global governing body of the sport. Betty is a former national chairman of selectors and was tournament director of the 2000 Women's World Bowls at Moama. Director Barrie Close Queenscliff Outstanding competitor who has won several state championship titles. A former senior banker, Barrie served as executive officer of the Rural Finance Commission before moving into a private accountancy practice for the last 20 years of his professional life. Director Rosemary Varty Lilydale A former state parliamentarian who rose to the position of Cabinet Secretary when serving as MLC for Nunawading, then Silvan Provinces, between 1985 and 1999. Rosemary had been a VLBA state councillor since 2008 and holds coaching and technical accreditations. Finance Director Michael Classon Malvern The incumbent RVBA treasurer prior to unification, Michael is a past president of Malvern Bowls Club. A former chief executive of the Moonee Valley Racing Club, Director of Finance and Audit of the Victorian Racing Council, he served three years as Honorary Treasurer of the Pakenham Racing Club. Director John Fisher Rutherglen Self employed primary producer and agricultural contractor who served three terms as shire president on the Chiltern Shire Council. John is a former president of the Ovens and Murray West Bowls Association, chairman of RVBA Group 6 and has been an RVBA councillor since 1998. Director Maureen Connolly Beaumaris A VLBA state councillor since 2003, Maureen was elected as state president in August 2009 and served as deputy chairman of the interim board of Bowls Victoria. A retired school teacher having spent 30 years in child education, of which 10 years were as a primary school principal and five as a special education consultant. Director Murray Rowe Sebastopol Retired senior police officer having served the community for 41 years. A former chairman of Sebastopol Bowls Club, Murray is a life member of the Ballarat Regional Bowls Association, having served terms as president and several other portfolios. A stalwart of Central Victoria Group 1, he has been an RVBA councillor since 1998. Director Pat Calabresi Doncaster A former executive with an international computer company, Pat was elected to the VLBA state council in 2001. Has held almost every senior committee position at Doncaster Bowls Club and is a National Level 1 coach and umpire. Was a metropolitan vice president of the VLBA prior to unification. The Inaugural Bowls Victoria Board of Directors Introducing... President Graeme Hosken Altona Retired company secretary with an international petro- chemical corporation who served two terms as mayor of the City of Altona and 17 years as a councillor. A life mem- ber and past president of the Altona Bowls Club, former RVBA deputy president, match committee chairman and team manager of the Victorian state side, Graeme became state president in January 2008 following the sudden death of Doug Corben OAM, and was most recently chairman of the interim board of Bowls Victoria.
