Bowls In Focus : Bowls In Focus May 2010
Bowls In Focus 35 Barry's Back- To-Back Titles The annual Victorian Lawn Bowls State Championships hosted by Wheelchair Sports Victoria was held last month at the Fitzroy Victoria Bowling Club. Keen participants travelled from all over the state to compete, with 15 entries into the singles competition and 14 entries into the pairs. Josh Barry from Warracknabeal continued his brilliant form following on from the recent Australian Classic where he represented Victoria in the VICSRAPID (VICtorian Sport & Recreation Association for Persons with an Intellectual Disability) squad, winning three gold medals. This time he took the top prize in both the singles and pairs. Josh joined forces with Andrew Brandolin to prevail against Steven Odgers and Bruno Moretti in a tight pairs final. Then he had to front up against Andrew in the singles decider. Both players dominated the earlier rounds of play throughout the tournament, however Brandolin was unable to overcome the defending champion as Josh claimed the 2010 title. Bowls Victoria would like to thank and congratulate Jared Keely and Stephanie Simpson from Wheelchair Sports Victoria for their time and effort spent on organising this fantastic event. We would also like to congratulate the competitors on their outstanding display of bowls and sportsmanship.
