Bowls In Focus : March April 2010
Bowls In Focus 39 Bowls Festival for Seniors In 2010, the Bowls Victoria Development Team will endeavour to provide clubs with as many opportu- nities as possible to take part in unique recruitment initiatives and specialised development programs. For example: Bowls Victoria's Try Bowls Day, Victorian Seniors Festival, Victorian Multicultural Bowls Program and the new and exciting Forty/40 bowls format. In my eyes the Victorian Seniors Festival is an event that needs to be embraced by a lot more clubs moving forward. This event offers clubs a fantastic opportunity to attract new members and to cater for a specific demographical segment on a scheduled day. Despite the fact the your club partakes in their own Try Bowls Day throughout the season, this maybe not be as appealing to seniors who wish to try bowls in a non threatening environment. The Victorian Seniors Festival therefore provides the perfect platform for seniors who would like to try or take up bowls in the future. Due to the great representation of clubs that chose to take part in the 2009 Victorian Seniors Festival, beyondblue has chosen to sponsor the Bowls Victoria Seniors Festival this year. As a result each club that partakes in the 2010 beyondblue Bowls Victoria Seniors Festival will be given $75-$100 sponsorship for their event. The amount of money each club receives will be depen- dant on the final number of clubs that participate. The Victorian Seniors Festival takes place in early October each year. This year's festival dates are from 3-10 October. Last year, I attempted to have clubs commit to one particular day to host their event which proved to be near impossible and resulted in clubs hosting their event on three different days. This time around, to encourage more clubs to take part in this great initiative, I'm enabling clubs to host their event or any day of the festival, from Sunday 3 October to Sunday 10 October. The Development team would encourage all clubs that wish to take part in the 2010 Seniors Festival to discuss the event with their club sup- port or event committee as soon as possible. The Victorian Seniors Festival organisers require Bowls Victoria to submit their event details by late April. As a result, can I ask all clubs wishing to be involved in the 2010 Victorian Seniors Festival to please submit an expression of interest in writing to Kate Benton by 12 April 2010. Your expression of interest can be sent to email@example.com or by mail to Bowls Victoria, 11-23 Burwood Rd, Hawthorn 3122. Those clubs that do decide to take advantage of this fabulous event will be given the chance to register their club's details on the Victorian Bowls website. The event will also be published in the 2010 Victorian Festival Seniors Guide and in the Seniors newspaper. I will also be providing partici- pant clubs with a proposed format, to help the day run smoothly. If you wish for your club to participant in this event please contact Kate Benton on 9819-0757.
