Bowls In Focus : December 2009
Bowls In Focus 37 tors and guests including RVBA deputy president Doug Kneebone, RVBA Group 3 councillor Don Webb OAM, GDLBA lady president Noelle McDon- ald, GBA president John Townsend, past members, current members and friends. The day could be summed up using the Chinese proverb that says - 'Let those who drink the water remember with gratitude those who dug the well'. Those in attendance did just that giving thanks for those whose public spirit and commitment to the district led to the foundation of the Lake Bolac Bowls Club. This golden jubilee was hard earned, and current members truly enjoy it and are now do- ing their share to ensure the club continues to prosper. RVBA deputy president Doug Kneebone, representing the president, congratulated the club on their milestone and presented the club with an RVBA commemorative plaque. Foundation members Don Davidson and Glad Dowsett as special guests were invited to cut the anniversary cake which they did with great dignity. A highlight of the function came when the club acknowledged the dedication of one of its finest by awarding secretary Ron Treloar life membership for his outstanding contribution over many years. Ron joined Lake Bolac 13 years ago, and dur- ing that time has held a number of positions that according to him, 'He was able to eventually get out of'. Twelve years ago he was appointed club secretary, and as most would know, it is not an executive position easy to unload. He still holds the secretary's office, and as such is a fine ambas- sador at the club. As a pennant or social bowler he is always super competitive, but a gentleman and is the first to shake the hand or acknowledge the good shots of an opponent. Accepting his award the humble Treloar was, for once, stuck for words, but was very appreciative and honoured to be recognised by the club. Maroondah Sincere condolences to the family and friends of Alex Gillespie (Heatherdale) who passed away recently Murray The district is saddened by the passing of MBA and CMBA life member Doug Donaldson (Finley). We extend our sincere condolences to his family and friends. • Lake Bolac’s dedicated secretary Ron Treloar is fanked by RVBA deputy president Doug Kneebone and club president Peter Upton as he receives his life membership. 2010 VICTORIAN MASTERS SINGLES CHAMPIONSHIP RICHMOND UNION BOWLING CLUB INC proudly presents the 55th $20,000 TOTAL PRIZE MONEY SATURDAY JANUARY 2nd - THURSDAY JANUARY 7th VICTORIA'S MOST PRESTIGIOUS SINGLES EVENT OPEN TO PLAYERS WITH MASTERS STATUS (see entry form for details) BREAKFAST & LUNCH AVAILABLE EACH DAY FROM 8AM CALCUTTA GALA DINNER TUESDAY 5th (Bookings Essential) WINNER $10,000 RUNNER UP $4,000 LOSING SEMI FINALISTS $2,000 LOSING QUARTER FINALISTS $500 DISCOUNT ACCOMODATION AVAILABLE LIMITED ENTRIES - GET IN QUICK!!
