Bowls In Focus : December 2009
Bowls In Focus 17 beabetterbowler.com.au is proudly sponsored by It was a happy occasion last month when a formal corporate partnership was galvanised between bowls manufacturers Henselite Australia and the Royal Victorian Bowls Association. Despite the arrival of several new challengers on the bowls manufacture stage, Henselite still remains the world market leader, with a catalogue featuring around 700 product lines, and exporting bowls, bags, shoes and bowls accessories to no fewer than 46 countries. Formed in 1918, the Melbourne-based Henselite company has achieved many industry honours in- cluding several Australian Export Awards, and was inducted into the esteemed Helms Foundation Hall of Fame in the USA for Outstanding Achievement. "Henselite has been supporting the RVBA and bowls in Victoria for over 80 years - we are proud of this support and are committed to continue supporting the development of the sport in Victoria," said managing director Mark Hensell at the announcement. Development of the precision engineered Phenolformaldehyde bowl, as we know it today, has seen four generations of Hensell family members at the pioneering forefront. Mark's great grandfather William Hensell, who founded the Henselite company, created the vulcanite or ebonite rubber bowls that were the vogue between 1918 and 1940; before grandfather Raymond Hensell experimented with and perfected the production of the hardened plastic product that bowlers all around the world now use. Company chairman Bruce Hensell, Mark's father, designed and developed the machinery used to produce the wide and varied range of bowls which the company produces, while Mark, a qualified master engineer, thrust Henselite into the twenty-first century when he designed and introduced laser technology to the company's production regime. The family tradition is further enhanced by the talents of Alistair Hensell, Mark's brother, who man- ages the company's export activities. "The RVBA is delighted to have secured Henselite as a Corporate Partner through our new sponsorship agreement. Spanning areas of long-standing support of the RVBA such as School Pennant and Under-18 Championships, the new relationship expands support to include Premier Division Pennant, support for our Development Team and other areas of junior development," replied a beaming Peter Hanlon, executive officer of the RVBA at the announcement, adding: "Henselite will be prominent on our website with links directly to their new, exciting web presence, and we look forward to continuing with the company as a Corpo- rate Partner for many years to come." The Henselite company has produced more than seven million sets of lawn bowls since it first com- menced operations. - David Allen Market leader and RVBA form partnership • Henselite managing director Mark Hensell forma- lises the partnership with RVBA executive offcer Peter Hanlon.
