Bowls In Focus : December 2009
Bowls In Focus 9 CONGRATULATIONS to you all! His- tory has been made! I want to thank you all for your confidence in the JWP by voting YES for Unification. I am assured that your vote will lead us into a new and exciting era in our sport. I have been involved in a broad range of activities over the past month. The Bowls Australia Conference was a great opportunity to meet with the various state leaders and was also quite challenging and interesting, as also was the VicSport - Women in Sport conference with notable guest speakers who spoke of the challenges that they had encountered. I was also pleased to attend the VicSport - Victorian Sports awards. I have travelled to many clubs this month to join in their celebrations most notable of those being Albert Park VRI’s 110th Anniversary and Numurkah’s 100th. I heartily congratulate Kirsty Poile from Heatherdale who won the Under- 25 State Singles Championship. She defeated new mum, Carly Crothers (Moss), in the final. Both these girls had been prominent members in our junior squad. It was delightful to see so much junior talent. Thank you to the clubs from all over the state who showed wonderful support for the Jane McGrath Foundation’s Pink Day on Sunday 25 October. Werribee RSL, which was the venue for the State Under-25 competition on this day, saw the clubrooms and greens awash with Pink. It was a super day and thank you all, in particular the ladies from Werribee RSL, for your generous support. More congratulations to our Senior State side for their win in the three Test Series at Queanbeyan in ACT with excel- lent bowling in oppressive heat. It was our 11th successive series victory against the ACT ladies in Laudenbach Shield chal- lenge matches. Well done, girls! At this is now the festive time of the year I wish to convey my personal best wishes to my colleagues on the VLBA Board and State Council, also to our executive officer Leonie Schulz and her staff, Jenny and Lyndall at head office, and similarly to our magazine editor David Allen and his professional team at Bowls In Focus, Marnie, Todd, Mark and Rod. Finally, I want to wish each and every one of you a very Joyous and Happy Christmas with your family and friends and a successful New Year enjoying your bowls.
