Bowls In Focus 49 and spoons to commemorate the occasion. Presidents Maureen and Janet cut the cake, which had been beautifully made and presented by Diane Luke and son Glen. President Maureen presented Newport life member Joyce Haw with her Super Veteran badge. The ladies from New- port were thrilled to have the room full of 'blue coats', as they call them, joining in the festivities and president Maureen had a great day as she had enjoyed a few coffees by the end of it. A very memorable day for Newport on its 80th Anniversary. Maryborough Maryborough Golf's Lou Cerchi will be celebrating her 90th birthday shortly. Lou is very active in her club and still enjoying weekly pennant, we wish her a very happy birthday and many more happy days of bowling ahead. Congratulations to Marg and Geoff Davies (Dunolly) for their recent golden wedding celebrations North Central The North Central DLBA was a delighted to welcome new Group 6 councillor Bev Mill to their opening day recently. During the afternoon councillor Bev presented Joan Wood (Donald) with her Super Veteran badge. Congratulations to Joan, an active and valued member of her club. North Gippsland North Gippsland DLBA was pleased to welcome Group councillor Barbara White to officially open the 2009- 2010 season at Maffra Bowling Club. Bowlers from all clubs were present on the day and were very much looking forward to the start of the new season. Congratulations to Brenda Carter (Sale Golf) who was thrilled to receive her Super Veteran badge on the day. Congratulations to Gloria and Pe- ter Graydon (Maffra) on their recent diamond wedding celebrations. The district is saddened by the passing of Elsa Earl (Sale) and extends sincere condolences to her family and friends. Ovens & Murray Ovens and Murray DLBA's opening day was held at Corowa Services in lovely, sunny weather where associa- tion president Margaret Isherwood welcomed 160 ladies representing every club. Corowa president Maureen Hutson rolled the kitty and president Margaret rolled the first bowl declaring the 2009-2010 season open. Wangaratta City Ladies recently celebrated their 40th anniversary. It was a happy occasion and a pleasure to have three life members in at- tendance, being Joyce Kennett, Ivy Davey and Patricia Johnstone. Joyce had been present at the original opening of the grass bowling green in 1969. The club was delighted to welcome official guests to their spe- cial day including Group 7 councillor Alice Singe, O&M president Margaret Isherwood, O&M secretary Yvonne Drake and Wangaratta City mayor councillor Ron Webb. Undeterred by the chilly weather conditions, everyone enjoyed a game of bowls then adjourned to the clubhouse for afternoon tea and a get-together. Thank you to member Lorna McCor- mick who made the anniversary cake which councillor Alice had the honour of cutting and so brought an end to a lovely day of celebration. Many ladies from the district will remember Flo Egan from Milawa who was still playing bowls well into her 90's. This wonderful lady recently turned 106 and is a life member of the club where she still enjoys playing cards, having never lost that competi- tive edge. Orchids to you, Flo. It is also a big birthday for Nance Smith, a life member from Benalla, who recently celebrated her 90th birthday. Happy birthday Nance. Friendship Day was held at Myrtl- eford, where the rain gods ruled on the day and everyone had to scurry for cover, although play continued until lunch. The winners on the day were Pauline Dalton, Thirza Irvine and Shirley Hinty.
