Bowls In Focus : November 2009
12 Bowls In Focus VLBA News Around the Greens VLBA News Around the Greens VLBA News The VLBA selection panel has included two new players in the Victorian side to compete for the Laudenbach Shield against the ACT at Queanbeyan Bowls Club this month. They are Anne Miles and Claire Sanders from Yarrawonga & Border Golf, whose outstanding results last summer were initially rewarded with inclusion in this season's state squad; then excellent performances in recent trials at the Sebastopol and Geelong Cement clubs have seen them named in the 12-player team to take on the national capitol's finest. Selectors initiated three changes to the side that played in the 2009 Australian Championships in the ACT earlier this year, with Essendon's Anna Hoogwerf returning to the line-up. Miles, Sanders and Hoogwerf replace Lalor's Barbara Withers, who retired at the end of last season, along with Glenroy's Judy Davey and Judy Nardella from Yarraville Footscray, who can be counted as unlucky to miss selection. The Victorian team for the three match Test Series on 19-20 November is:-Joyce Lindores (Clayton) skip, Jan Hurst (Glenroy), Anne Miles (Yarrawonga & Border Golf), Nicole Shortis (Glenroy). Rebecca McMahon (City Colac) skip, Paula Wood (Clayton), Robyn Thomassen (Grangeburn), Brooke Edwards (Keilor). Gayle Edwards (Keilor) skip, Carla Odgers (Keilor), Anna Hoogwerf (Essendon), Claire Sanders (Yarrawonga & Border Golf). It is two years since Victoria last contested the Laudenbach Shield, when it was hosted at the Rich River Golf Resort, where the Vics retained the coveted trophy in a 3-0 whitewash over the visiting ACT side. Unification Vote Life Members, Councillors, Board members and Clubs were sent, on 16 October 2009, the Notice of Meeting and Motion, Proxy information, Bowls Victoria Constitution and information on the VLBA Special General Meeting to be held at 1pm on Thursday 3 December 2009 at Meeting Place, Level 1, Moonee Valley Racecourse, McPherson Street, Moonee Ponds, Victoria. Voting at Club Level: We strongly encourage each individual Section of a Club (ie. VLBA Section & RVBA Section) to give their members the opportunity to discuss independently the proposed uni- fication of the VLBA and RVBA. Clubs should follow their own Club Constitu- tion and the procedures outlined within it for their Section vote. Voting at the VLBA Special General Meeting: As per the VLBA Constitution, members entitled to vote are: Council- lors, Board members, Life Members, and Club Delegates ('Voters'). Clubs may have two (2) Delegates, but only one (1) vote. To achieve a successful vote we require 75% of votes cast. Proxy form: Voters that are unable to attend the meeting may appoint a proxy to vote on their behalf at the Special General Meeting. There are a number of ways the proxy form may be completed. 1. Voters may complete the proxy form nominating a specific person as their proxy. The form may be given to the proxy to present at the meeting where they will receive the ballot paper or the proxy form may be mailed to the VLBA Executive Officer prior to the meeting. The proxy must register at the meeting to confirm their appointment as a proxy for the Voter and receive the ballot paper. 2. Voters may complete the proxy form nominating the VLBA State President as their proxy and mail it to the VLBA Executive Officer. As the State President will be chairing the meet- ing they will be in attendance at the meeting. 3. A proxy may hold more than one proxy. They must vote separately in accordance with the wishes of each of the Voters. As stated on the proxy form, Voters may indicate on the form how they wish their proxy to vote on their behalf. If the Voter does not indicate how they wish their proxy to vote, the proxy may vote as they think fit. Please Note: The Nominated Proxy must be in attendance at the meeting. If a Voter nominates a proxy and they do not attend the meeting the voter's proxy will be invalid.
