Bowls In Focus : August September 2009
Statewide Bayside Sincere condolences to the family and friends of George Cottam and Arthur Martin (Cheltenham) who recently passed away. Central Highlands Calling all ex Marshies! The Bacchus Marsh Centenary Anniversary will be take place Saturday 12 September. Join in the day to celebrate the growth of the Bacchus Marsh Bowls Club, which began as an idea and first sug gested in 1873, but it wasn’t until 1909 that the dream came true. It all started with three-rink green established at the residence of Mr Patterson who was manager of the local gas works. The club moved to its present site in 1912 where a four-rink green was installed and later enlarged to eight rinks. A small ‘lean-to’ sufficed until 1940, when a pavilion was erected for the grand sum of 450 pounds. The club acquired more land in the 1950’s and another green was installed. In 1980 the growth in membership saw a new clubhouse established and opened RVBA president Hunter Beatty. In 1988 RVBA president Jack Lorenz opened the members lounge. The Ladies section was formed in 1925. Both men and ladies played pennant in the Geelong and Ballarat Associations before transferring to the newly formed Central Highlands Bowling Association in about 1965.
